Project description
Abstract
This template is a guide to writing a case study / research paper in APA Style, 6th edition. It provides the necessary sections, headings, and subheadings required in a proposal, as well as the line and paragraph spacing, page breaks, page numbering, and referencing styles. It is formatted with one inch top, bottom, left, and right margins; Times New Roman font in 12 point; double-spaced; aligned flush left; and paragraphs indented 5-7 spaces. The page number appears one inch from the right edge on the first line of each page. There should be two spaces between sentences. Without changing the formatting, insert your own text into each template section. An abstract is a brief (approximately 120 words) one-paragraph summary of the contents of the proposal. The abstract is typically written last, includes an overview of the proposed (case study, research paper, or research project) background and review of literature, purpose, method, results, and conclusion. It is non-evaluative, that is, does not contain personal comments. An abstract is not indented nor does it contain citations or any quotes.

Introduction
In this introductory section, write a few paragraphs that give an overview of your company and background information. Tell why it is important to plan strategies and apply theories of management to a situational analysis of the company. This section should introduce the research topic and be no more than one (1) page. Some issues and questions to be considered in this section include: Describe briefly the historical background of the company and industry. What do they do? What is the purpose of the paper? This entails a thesis statement explaining why you are writing this paper. The purpose of this paper is to. . . Also, remember to support your findings from the literature, include relevant data, and cite them according to APA Style, 6th ed. All source material used in this case study analysis / research paper must be documented in the body of the paper by citing the authors and dates of the sources. The full reference list in alphabetical order to each in-text citation must appear on a separate reference page(s) entitled ‘References’. Reference entries are typed in hanging indent format, meaning that the first line of each reference is set flush left and subsequent lines are indented five (5) spaces.
Strategic Planning (Situational Analysis) This section will describe the internal and external business environment and should be three (3) to four (4) pages. This section requires a SWOT analysis of the company to be completed. You may use bullet points for your SWOT only. Choose only two (2) to three (3) of the most important strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats you find then below your bullet points write a brief paragraph summarizing your analysis to support your findings. SWOT: Strengths and Weaknesses are internal and Opportunities and Threats are external. As for external environment analysis includes Opportunities and Threats components that hinge on thorough examination of strategic planning of the competitive environment and macroenvironment sometimes referred to as PEST analysis (Political, Economic, Social and Technology). Bateman and Snell (2013) provide the following fundamentals for an environmental analysis: Industry profile: top product lines and substantial market industry sectors. 2) Industry growth: growth rates for overall industry and primary market divisions and market changes 3) Industry forces: threat of new entrants into the industry, threat of substitutes, economic power of buyers or suppliers, and rivalry among competitors of the industry. 4) Competitor profile: major competitors and their market shares. 5) Competitor analysis: comparing and benchmarking goals, strategies, strengths, and weaknesses of the major competitors, 6) Competitor advantages: competitors in the industry have differentiated their products or services enough to gain competitive advantage or attained cost leadership. 7) Legislation and regulatory (legal and government) activities: the impacts that both have on the industry 8) Political activity: the level of political activity accepted by organizations and associations with the industry 9) Social issues: present and possible social

matters and their effects on the industry 10) Social interest groups: consumer, environmental, and other activist groups that attempt to influence the industry 11) Labor issues: key labor needs, shortages, opportunities, and problems confronting the industry 12) Macroeconomic conditions: economic factors that affect supply, demand, growth, competition, and profitability within the industry and 13) Technological factors, scientific or technical approaches such as prospective innovations that rattle the industry.
After your review of strategic planning and management components for evaluating the internal and external business environment, conduct your SWOT and also respond to the questions in your summary paragraph: Strengths and Weaknesses (Internal) Section: Some issues and questions to consider: What types of organizational culture is illustrated in the company i.e. adhocracy, etc. What is the core capability of the company? Describe the processes for managerial controls used within the organization and i.e. bureaucratic, market, or clan and explain why? Review briefly company’s financial statements (balance sheet and profit and loss statement (income statement), choose one financial ratio to compute and briefly discuss results.
Opportunities and Threats (External) Section: Some issues and questions to consider: Define what a mission and vision statement is and provide company mission and vision? Does the mission and vision of the company match its goals and overall strategy? Why or Why not? Describe barriers to entry from competition. Identify its customers and its competitors then compare and contrast. What are the company’s substitutes and complements? What specific corporate and business strategies, goals, and planning methods are utilized by this organization? How are they being implemented? What is the company’s corporate responsibility? Are there any legal issues or ethical dilemmas?

Organizing for Action
This section should discuss how the company is structured and organized and be one (1) page. Some issues and questions to be considered are: What is the hierarchy of the company? Distinguish the concepts of delegation throughout different levels of the company and who has the authority, responsibility and accountability. What is the organizational structure i.e. mechanistic, organic and why? Define span of control and describe the organization’s span of control i.e. vertical or horizontal structure, narrow or wide span and tall or flat organization? Describe the decision-making power. What are some of the company strategies for organizational agility i.e. TQM, etc.
