Write a personal response essay to any one of the short stories that we read from Madden’s Exploring Literature. Use quotations from the story to support your viewpoint. The following questions can help guide you. You do not need to answer all of them.
? How did you respond to the story? Why did you respond in that way? What in your experience helped you respond to the story in the way that you did? Did the story remind you of parts of your life? Which parts?
? How did the story make you think differently? Or, how did the story reinforce your values?
? Which passages or characters captured your attention? Why? How does the writer show the personality of the character?
Review Madden, pp. 21-54 for hints about how to think about your response and suggestions on how to organize your essay.
