One of the first tracks and cars:
One of the first automobiles was a high wheeled buggy in racine wi
one of the tracks were not your average race track it was just street racing and one of the first ones was from green bay to madison .
another one was the milwaukee Vanderbilt cup race

the oshkosh and the green bay cars
in 1875 wisconsin state legislature offered a 10,00 dollar prize to whoever makes the most reliable self propelled vehicle.
The cars were named after the cities they were built in The green bay,and the oshkosh.
both machines were to drive from green bay to madison by way of janesville and beloit

The race
on july 19 1875 they started their competition in front of lots of people to watch the historical event
once outside the green bay limits green bay broke down and had to go back for repairs
The oshkosh continued south
People were impressed by the oshkosh traveling 90 miles between green bay and appleton in eight hours.
Oshkosh won the prize at a time of 33 hours 27 seconds
they only got 5000 dollars because it was not efficient enough

Much slower than now days

nascar alway drives on pavement vs dirt then
the they ran one mile in 4 minutes now its 30sec to 45 sec.

Much has changed in the racing industry since the oshkosh and green bay.
