This is a Strategic Management Class. We have to come up with a Strategic Plan for the Local SUNY Community College. I personally, wanted to focus on adding an Agricultural Associate Degree to attract that portion of young and adult learners who are interested in subject matter such as Agriculture. I need to prove that this is a degree that will provide an employment for graduates.
One of the speakers who was the President on campus gave a brief summary of the college as of now. The college seeks proposals to help meet its goals in improving the enrollment of adult learners in credit bearing courses/programs.
Highest consideration for proposals would be based on the following (weights in parenthesis):
SWOT/TOWS analysis of demographics, size, and competitors of the region and ability to attract students (40%)
Business model cost detail of proposed strategies (30%)
Details of market and workforce need alignment with education products from us or competitors (20%)
Identification of unique motivators for target market segments (10%).

Student tuition and fees comprise nearly 50% of our operating budget and therefore, enrollment is critical to our ability to offer high quality programs and services to our students. The median age of our students is 20, therefore, we need to consider increasing our enrollment from “adult learners”, those aged 25 and over who have not yet obtained a college degree, or are looking to retrain in order to replace the declining number of local high school graduates.
Goal: To increase the percentage enrollment of adult learners from 28% (1182) in fall 2013 to 35% (1482) in fall 2016.
Problem: Determine what programs and services our target market wants most, how to motivate them to choose us over competitors (or substitutes e.g., experience in lieu of education), developed into a sustainable business model.
