3. Web Address
4. Summary of Permanent Collection (essay form: 1 paragraph/5-6 sentences)
5. Public Focus (essay form: 1 paragraph/5-6 sentences)
Note :
Some of you have asked the question “What is public focus?” as it relates to your museum visit assignment:
“Public Focus” asks you to read through the museum’s web pages and determine it’s public direction, role, and how it identifies itself in the community at large. For instance, is it a public or private institution, as that will determine certain things …
Example:
if it is public, then it depends on the surrounding community for many of its funds, and relies on things such as public bonds. Therefore, it is typical for them to present workshops for the public, summer programs, children’s classes and special galleries dedicated to teaching art. Why? Because it is critical to educate the next generation to love and support the arts.
… If the institution is private, then there are different ‘masters’. Many private museums are funded through private funds or an endowment. Therefore, the museum’s responsibility, role, and direction are different …such as professional and academic research and/or philanthropic endeavors in collecting. These types of activities are reflected in many of the management decisions that the web sites reveal.
For instance:
Los Angeles County Museum of Art is ‘public’, while the Getty Center and Villa are ‘private’. …very different institutions with very different roles in the community.
6. Summary of Current Exhibitions (essay form: 1 paragraph/5-6 sentences))
• Point total on each virtual museum section:
? Questions 1-3 = 1 pt. ea.
? Questions 4-6 = 4 pts. ea.
