Mise-en-scène


Assignment Description:
Select an appropriate (i.e. not gratuitous in content or language) film of your choice and make an interpretive claim about what theme or message the director is conveying. In your analysis, you must discuss how at least three of the following elements support your claim:
Narrative Form/Plot Structure
Mise-en-scène
Cinematography
Characterization
Editing
Sound
Dialogue
Said another way, you’ll be breaking down a film into its component parts and discussing how those parts contribute to an overall meaning of some kind. You must provide specific examples for each of your discussed components and tie each example back into your interpretive claim about the film as
a whole (a.k.a. your thesis statement).

Practice evaluation and analysis as methods of inquiry
Use specific criteria to analyze and evaluate an argument and its effectiveness

MLA Format (Times New Roman, 12pt Font, Double-spaced, 1” Margins)
An interesting and appropriate title
A clear thesis statement
