PUBLIC RELATIONS WRITING
INSTRUCTIONS: Produce six examples of PR Writing from the eight suggestions below.
Case 1
Create a Newsletter (one page) Produce a newsletter for students at Regent’ University over the holiday periods. The newsletter will be emailed and posted out to students to keep them informed of what is happening when they are not at college.
The newsletter should be one A4 page and contain a name for the newsletter, at least one image and two original articles – one a lead article. Both articles should have headlines. Your work should include and recognise design, font, typeface, colour and graphics. Pay attention to audience and readability.

Case 2
Write a Press Release Write a press release announcing the celebration of the fourth anniversary of Upstyler.co.uk. An event will take place at the Finsbury Hotel, Islington on September 9th 2013 at 3pm. There will be a catwalk show with models, including Kate Moss and Naomi Campbell, showcasing Upstyler’s mix of vintage and designer clothing. The press event also hopes to bring more awareness of Trekstock, which will also be represented at the event.
You are the main PR contact and your details should be on the release. You work for Media Matters More PR Agency. Include a phone number and address etc…
Ensure your press release is professionally and carefully laid out.
Case 3
Write a Pitch Letter Write a pitch letter to Jim Mathers, Editor of The Time is Now magazine with a pitch for an article publicising Upstyler.co.uk
Research the magazine and website Upstyler.co.uk and come up with a suitable idea for an article that could feature in The Time is Now, which is a magazine for young, 18 – 30 year olds, interested in living for the moment, saving the planet, improving the environment, but looking good and living for the moment.
The idea should include a competition. The prize will be a vintage Gucci handbag. Suggest how including this article will benefit The Time is Now.

Situation Assessment Produce a Situation Assessment of News Corporation, as part of the current PR strategies and plans in place by the company, to counter bad publicity, due to the News of the World ‘phone hacking scandal’ and subsequent demise, the ‘sexism row’ at Sky Sports (involving two presenters) and The Leveson Inquiry.
The situation analysis should address the following:
• The situation?
• A SWOT Analysis
• A Stakeholders Analysis
• Identification of the target audience which is to be addressed through the PR strategies.
• Include supporting material and research and statistics.
• Back up your statements and opinions with information from your text as well as other sources.

Your idea could build upon aspects outlined in the pitch letter (Case 3) or could be a completely fresh idea. Ensure you do your research and write it according to your chosen target audience.
You should also include a list of at least six suitable publications that you could think would be likely to print this article.
Case 6
Publicity proposal Produce a publicity proposal outlining your ideas for promoting London to the rest of the world. Your proposal should focus on increasing tourism but it is up to you if this is general or focuses upon specific areas such as eating out, entertainment or activities.
The proposal should be in the form of a written document containing a general introduction and ten main points or ideas. These can be bullet points but should be detailed and clear (not just one line).
Your agency is working on behalf of the Mayor of London’s office.
Case 7
Write a review Write a review that could appear in a magazine or newspaper. Your review should be of an event or happening in London that would help to promote London to the rest of the world. You could focus upon an event, an experience, restaurants, concerts, shopping malls, sport etc…

Write a case study Write a case study which focuses upon someone else in the class or the university. The case study should discuss and identify the student’s choice of study, their qualifications and experience. The case study should be suitable for the inclusion in the Regent’s University newsletter (Case One), which features case studies of students in every issue. You can lay out the article with your newsletter design, if applicable, however, this is not a prerequisite.
