A factory is scheduled to produce 500 units in an 8.5 hour shift that
includes a 30 minute lunch period and two 20 minute breaks. No-one
works during lunch or breaks. A time study was conducted of a job in
order to develop new time standards. A worker was observed for 30
minutes. During that time, 35 units were produced. The analyst rated
the worker as performing at a 110 percent performance rate. Since a
lunch break and two personal breaks are already scheduled during the
shift, no separate allowances are made for personal time. However, the
job does require the operator to periodically swap out three different
racks of parts. Allowances are needed for this periodic swapping as
shown below:
