Paper instructions:
To extend the experience of arguing a case “in court,” you will be writing a short (400-700 words) persuasive essay. You could argue the same point you’re making in the trial, but you might prefer to choose another topic around intolerance.
This is not meant to be a full-blown, in-depth research project. This is meant to support your persuasive skills, extend the skills you used in the TKM essay, and to introduce you to the research skills you’ll need now to support your argument, as well as those you’ll need later when you undertake the I-Search project.
You will need:
• A thesis. Remember the thesis? – it’s debatable, specific and significant.
• Evidence.
o You will need to synthesize sources that will support your argument. You will have to evaluate sources and CITE them correctly.
o You will use MLA style to embed quotes.
• Persuasion. You’ll need to use a balance of argumentative strategies, including ethos, logos and pathos. You’ll need to acknowledge your opposition, perhaps find some common ground – then demolish them!
• Eloquence. Your writing will be assessed by its effectiveness, its organization, its style and its conventions. Remember the power of repetition, connotation and denotation.CLICK HERE FOR MORE ON THIS TOPIC
