Implementing a National Initiative

Implementing a National Initiative
Project description
Activity 7
Section 3: Current Specific Issues
Educators make sacrifices and face obstacles for their students and plan effectively to assure they are teaching those students. Teachers work as committed professionals to help students achieve, catch up, or move ahead. In order to be successful, leaders must motivate teachers by providing strong support and growth opportunities, creating flexible environments, and involving teachers in making decisions. However, teachers can also form teams and create learning communities to help themselves be the best teachers they can be. This section explores the best way to assure teachers are developing effective teams and learning communities.

Assignment 7 Driving New Standards
There are many new initiatives in K-12 education – three are major initiatives for the United States – the Common Core Standards, STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math), and Race to the Top. Each one of these new standards has an impact on schools. As an educational leader, you should understand these initiatives and be willing to provide information, support, and leadership as your school implements them.
